April is National Donate Life Month and it’s a good reminder to everyone that if you haven’t made your personal decision about organ donation, or joined the organ donor registry, now is the time! Most people join the organ donor registry by checking the box on a form at the DMV.  However, you don’t have to wait until your next DMV visit to enroll as an organ donor. The form is available online at It only takes a few minutes to fill out and drop in the mail. Don’t assume you’re too old or not healthy enough to be an organ donor. In New York State, ANYONE can join the donor registry as long as you are at least 16 years of age. After you’ve made your decision, tell your family so they know what your wishes are. Making your decision about organ donation is also a gift to your family. It will give them peace of mind knowing they won’t have to make that decision on your behalf. One organ donor can save up to 8 lives and help up to 50 more through tissue donation

Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network and Causewave Community Partners are collaborating on a community impact campaign about organ donation called “Pass Life On.” website includes inspiring videos & testimonials about organ donation. Paradigm Shift in language from “Be an organ donor” to: “Live life to the fullest. Help others do the same by passing life on.” Since the start of the Pass Life On campaign, there have been 95,000 new enrollments from our region to the New York State Donate Life Registry.
