just a thought... how much is this going to cost $$$$$$ ????? sounds like a waste of our resources to have to police all the bikes to make sure they are registered, inspected, etc... not to mention the influx of paperwork...

we passed law for cell phone use while driving years ago...what came of it? nothing...then we pass a "no texting while driving" law, if they truly were policing that we could make a fortune...but has anyone in the state thought about taking pay cuts or cutting back on erroneous expenses. They would probably have to hire someone to find places to cut.

What a joke. There are more important issues costing taxpayers money we should be worrying about. How about all the illegals we are paying for or the people milking the welfare and unemployment system.

Since the state refuses to cut back on Town Supervisors and Villages that eat up revenue by wasting it on part-time employees that make $60K/yr and the duplication of staff that occurs in the village system, I agree that new taxes need to be imposed. There are, however, many other, more lucrative ways to squeeze the tax payers for additional dollars, perhaps levying the same tax on non-medical "need" (erectile dysfunction pills) as there is on cigarettes, an annual luxury tax imposed on any vehicle valued at over $35K, or a mansion tax on any home over 2000 sq ft (with exemptions of course made for occupancy at a rate of 200 sq ft per person). Sound ridiculous? Maybe, maybe not, but these are no more ridiculous than what you propose. Sure, you may rein in a few bike messengers, but how much of the state is actually affected by them? Now figure out how much of the state will be affected by the law when you factor in the lack of mass transit statewide, and the price of owning, operating and properly licensing a motor vehicle in NY. People that can are swtiching to bicycles, because they are running out of options.

Really, but we can't drug test welfare recipients but we can pay our politicians when they take a week off? How about we let the politicians ride bikes to and from work I'd pay for that one.
