2 Charged w/ Leaving Dog in Car

It was pretty hot yesterday. Too hot for a dog to be left in a car at Eastview mall. These two individuals obviously felt it would be OK. Cops showed up and gave them a ticket.

Here's what amazes us: why is it you only get an appearance ticket for clearly abusing your pet?

National Weather Service Heat Safety
Here is the National Weather Service website for heat safety. Weatherhttp://www.weather.gov/om/heat/index.shtml Here is an animation of a time lapse of a car's temperature inside. http://ggweather.com/heat/heating-small.wmv After hearing the phone call, it doesn't seem to me that this guy understand just how dangerous it is. He kept saying, "It was only 80." Have you ever gotten into your car when it's only 80 degrees? It's still hot!!! People don't realize it's not just the fact that a car acts like a greenhouse; it's the combination of humidity, lack of oxygen, chemicals from the plastic heating up, and other factors that can kill. And because dogs are smaller (just like children), they heat up faster.

80 degrees is hot.
Here's an animation of how a car heats up on a hot day (and yes, 80 degrees is hot, despite what Liam says). http://ggweather.com/heat/heating-small.wmv People don't understand the combination of humidity, lack of oxygen, chemicals from the plastic heating up, and other factors that can kill. It's not just about the heat. And because dogs are smaller (just like children) they heat up faster.

dog in. car
I happen to know these two individuals. And it doesn't suprise me at all that they did that. I don't think they should be able to keep the pet or the punishment should be more severe. Because they gave that women who abused all those horses last year 100hrs of community sevice and couldn't own any animals for a year....not severe enough for the crime. What if next time nobody rescued the dog and it was too late? Then what? They should let those two roast in a car without water on the HOTTEST day of the year so far, and see how they like it. Max

Poor Dog!
I happen to know Liam Moore, the guy who left his dog in the car on the HOTTEST day the go shopping at the GAP. It doesn't suprise me that he would do this. I have a shy dog and Liam would come over all the time and tease and scare my dog. My dog would be barking at him and then he would lunge at my dog and stuff. My dog obviously didn't like it and I would have to tell him to stop constantly. He would always say that dogs are "stupid" and they "don't know what's going on." I think they should make an example of him. I agree that an appearance ticket is not enough either. Like the woman who abused all those horses only got 100 hrs. community service and she couldn't have animals for a year. A year? Not strict enough! Animal abuse is cruel and there should be larger fines and more severe punishment. What if nobody came to save that poor dog? What if it was too late? They should let those two roast in a car on a 85 dgree day let alone a 98 DEGREE day. The car was probably hot by the time they walked into the mall.
